JULY
07/31 Charing Crossing Floppin' Revamping
I thought today was the 31st of July. Well, let me just think that and write this entry as if it were ayesterday. It takes a little more work to make the August section than I feel like doing today.
I saw a movie called 84 Charing Cross Road today on IFC. I should've been working, but I kind of got sucked into when I was switching around the channels while having a late lunch. I've seen parts of it before and it seemed like a nice movie. I saw th ebeginning yet again, but this time I saw much more and it was really kind of touching in a way. I know it's kind of a sappy story with 2 people who correspond across the Atlantic through mail, but never meet in person. It's kind of a much classier and bittersweet version of "You've got mai"l which for I don't know why, but I did see. Anyway, I thought it's especially strange when during very hard times in England, people can only buy so much meat, so when they receive the care package with all kinds of food products they would never be able to have on their own from their well meaning customer in New York played by Anne Bancroft, it must have been so nice. It's the sort of thing we couldn't imagine living with supermarkets full of meat, vegetables and all the grocery you could ever want. I'm probably confusing you more if you haven't seen the movie. I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea though. There's no kun-fu fighting and special effects by ILM.
The dolls page has been fully revamped finally. It was kind of confusing looking before. I'm still not sure if this is the best way to organise it. If you have any suggestions, let me know. The dolls' number is actually up to about 150, but I thought it might be a bit much to put so many pics on one page. It's another home work for me.
My UK e-bud Craig has revamped his world famous flip flop flyin' site. If you haven't seen the new version, you should go visit.
07/25 New York dolls (?)
OK, finally, the pile of IFQO's that have stacked up over months have been done. Take a look. I did them in all at once, so they might look similar in a way.
Also, there was yet another little review / interview in this week's New York magazine. I'll have to put that up later as well.
i guess that might be it for today. can't think of anything else except for that i dropped off some new dolls at airmarket yesterday if you are in this area. Just glad to have finished all those IFQO's stuff finally.
07/19 East Coast, West Coast, orgy with 4 extra inches
OK, so the long awaited (at least I waited) issue of Tokion is out. You should all run out and get one although I'm not sure if it's avaialble all over the country just yet. My e-bud Mandana the writer of the article on me said she hasn't seen it in the SF area. If you are in the NYC area, you can definitely pick one up at St. Mark's bookstore and I also heard they are at Urban Outfitters. We should all get a subscription though and support a good thing.
To comemorate the occasion or just to organize this stuff a bit, I put together a new page called pressed mumble. It's a page of notable and not so notable instances of mumbleboy in the press or other things of remote relativity.
I got some new hardware here at mumble HQ. It's a new 19 inch monitor! Would you beleive I'd been working all this time with a 15 inch monitor? I think I managed OK and if I hadn't eanred the few extra dollars from those freelance jobs I've been nagging about, I'd still be using that, but now with 4 more inches horizontally and vertically, it's a whole different world to work in. Another excuse for being extravant with the cash is that ever since I had gotten my new G3 CPU, I had to use the one small monitor for both of the CPU's as I had to use the old one on accasion for scanning. A lot of connecting and disconnecting cables, but now with 2 monitors, my living room where I work is looking more like an actual working office.
Today though, it was the orgy of power tools next door to my apartment where a monumental renovation seems to be taking place, so I could hardly concentrate on work while I tried to blast out the noise with the help of Mr. Oizo, Jurassic 5, and Dim Dim speaking of which is one fine album from audiodregs that I have to review real soon.
07/13 Chicks in Plastic go to Sweden
Oooh, it's been so long since the last update. sorry, y'all. I'm finally done with some jobs that have been keeping me from everything. It was like a dark cloud hanging over me y'know, so even if I wasn't physically doing the work, I was too stressed out to do anything else. Well, enough of that. I know I gotta pick my jobs better. Anyway, a lot of things I need to tell you about. Hope I remember it all.
The animation I made for Plastica is finally up. We've had some technical difficulties with getting it to work on their server, so we couldn't show it with the re-launching of their site. The dolls have been selling quite steadily over there. If you are in the LA area, you should definitely go visit.
Went to see some great bands the other night at Tonic. Thanks to Sweden for the inviting me. They have an awesome site, you have to check out, cool animations and everything. Creme Blush played first. They were great. I thought this might be what it would've been like to see bands like The Slits or Liliput in real time. I guess they sounded like cross between bands I mentioned and newer bands like Chicks on Speed and Godzuki. I got their tape, so I'll have to write a review later. Next was Double Dong. They were cray and funny. Like a band made up of stand up comedians. In fact the guitar player looked so much like Jack Black. He looked real good in his short shorts a la 70's basketball. This is the only the second time I've been to Tonic, but it seems everytime I go, there's always some kind of wild performance involved. This show was actually some kind of a celebration (I'm not sure exactly) of films and videos. After Double Dong, they showed some. It's hard to explain, but it's sort of absurd funny kind of stuff and it featured some members of Double Dong (so multi-talented). After that was Sweden. They sounded great. Richard played one of them digital guitars. I'm not exactly sure what they do, but it sounded great. The other 2 members, Alex and Leja are twins and they sing together too. They also had this multi-color light projector thing that worked along with the music, so in all not only did they sound good, but it was visually striking as well. I guess I might compare their sound with like Joy Division, Incense, and Godzuki(I compare everybody w/ Godzuki). They gave me a really nicely designed CD, so I'll show that to you too later.
I guess I've written enough for one entry, so I'll get to other stuff later. I should be able to work on all of the IFQO entries that have piled up soon. thanks 4 yr patience.
