PAVEMENT - Terror Twilight

If you have been following my 'days
of mumble' for a while, you probably would know that I'm a fan of Pavement
and also that I saw them at Matador's 10th year anniversary event. What I
didn't know at the time was that would be the last time I would see them live.
You may have heard that they have broken up. I read this in a very small column
in SPIN or Rolling Stone or something like that. I didn't read anything in
Matador's newsletter. A kind of a quiet way to go out for a band who's labeled
by some critics as the best rock band in the world. I don't know about calling
anybody best can hold true, but they have been one of my favorites for a long
time and I will certainly miss them. About this album, I think it's a pretty
strong effort. I think it's much better than the previous album 'Brighten
the corners" which was good too, but it seemed too tight. I think "Wowee
Zowee" was the album that really sort of changed things for them. I think
it was a really good experimental kind of an album, but it really flopped
commercially when people had certain expectations after the big success of
"Crooked Rain". I think if "Wowee Zowee" had been a big
hit, it would have made them even more experimental instead of tightening
up and writing more pop songs. Anyway, it's a wonder that they have lasted
this long since they all lived so far away from each other. Hopefully we'll
see interesting projects from each of them.
