Balduin - Creative Cookery

I came across this album at a listening station in a record store in Tokyo while I was there this summer. I immediately liked it, but after having checked out the back cover for label info (which was Crippled Dick), I decided not to get it then and try my luck back in the U.S. After I got back, I forgot all about it, but I accidentally found it again in the basement of Tower Records while I was there killing time. I did it get it this time and saved a few bucks not having to pay the Japanese price for it. I'd only listened to little bits of it in Tokyo, but I was right about it being pretty good. He's really got a wide range of things he does. Some stuff reminds me a lot of early Squarepusher circa "Feed Me Weird Things", kind of jazz-influenced with very creative drum programming. It's much more listenable than Squarepusher though. There's lots of samples of people's voices beingh used in a funny way. Some of it sounds like he might have recorded people at parties without them knowing it, buit in this one particular song called Lemon Curry, the voice sample used really sound like John Cleese. Anyway, it's a very charming and fun album.
